Skills
A number of skills are needed in Melnikoff, some that need to be thought about are
listed below.
These below are in addition to those functional areas; Marketing, Production,
Personnel and Finance.
This list is only a starting point, to run a company a large number of skills are
necessary, or at least an appreciation of those skills. At least if you appreciate the
need for a skill you can make an assessment as to your own ability to provide that skill
or obtain it from elsewhere.
A point that you may wish to consider is an ability to spot when you are in a
"Hole" and at least to stop digging. This may sound simplistic but it is
surprising how often companies fail to provide the time and analysis to spot the hole they
are in let alone to "Stop digging"
COMMUNICATION
Within the company,
To your advisers (Umpires)
To your customers. (Advertising)
To your staff, (Personnel policy)
The company Image. (The world)
Is it up to date, or is it only "Lip service"
ORGANISATION
Is your company organised, do you all understand the objectives?
Look at you table, does it look organised?
Do you all understand your roles and have agreed them.
Can you find the information when necessary.
Do you have a "System?"
STATISTICS
Identify significant data,
Quick analysis of basic data to show trends,
Calculate your costs, Factory, sales, admin.
Are you making a Profit? Remember the "Hole " you may be digging.
Are the numbers getting better or worse?
TIME
Time management is crucial, we never have enough,
As you do not have enough have you prioritised it?
Do you make the best use of it?
